Clark Cοunty Sheriff's Office

The Clark County Sheriff's Office was unofficially formed in 1802 as a court marshal system, which served the Clark County District Court and its officers. The CCSO was officially formed in 1848 as an official subsidiary department of the County of Clark, and originally mustered over 100 men to be of service to the county. It had been tasked with serving warrants and arresting fugitives on behalf of the Clark County District Court. The CCSO was involved as a belligerent in the Mersea Island Rebellion in 1872; caused by a fall in the value of scripp used by the Whitehorn Coal & Iron Company; which resulted in the deaths of over 22 people, including 12 deputies Today, the Clark County Sheriff's Office acts as the county-level civilian law enforcement agency of the County of Clark.
