I am creating two Roblox games, Get Made Fun Of and Get Complimented, to test whether people are naturally more attracted to negative social interaction than positive social interaction. In Get Made Fun Of, players write something weird, embarrassing, or unusual about themselves on a sign, and other players make fun of them. In Get Complimented, players instead write something positive about themselves, and other players compliment them. The games will be designed to be as similar as possible, with the main difference being whether players are encouraged to focus on negative or positive aspects of others. My hypothesis is that Get Made Fun Of will be significantly more successful, because humans may have evolved to pay more attention to negative information, making judgment, embarrassment, and potential social threats more attention-grabbing. I will compare things such as visits, player engagement, session length, and retention between the two games.
